About the Heart of Gloucester County:

Heart of Gloucester County is a collaborative of local non-profits working together as a team, to provide services that encourage and strengthen two adult caregiver families in Gloucester County, and to help struggling families on the path to building self-sufficiency.

Volunteer  Job Title: Warmline/Chatline Volunteer

Job Description:

Provide support through information and referrals to a diverse range of callers and chat visitors to empower our clientele and help them become self-sufficient.  Through detailed training, our volunteers are well equipped to answer questions and assist individuals who require guidance.

Required characteristics and values:

Our volunteers are dependable, responsible, compassionate, empathetic, patient, and considerate individuals that understand the value of supporting Gloucester County families in a non- judgmental and respectful way.

Job requirements:

  • Availability at various times of the day including evenings for Chat Line and Warm Line.
  • Ability to efficiently tract all client contact using computer technology.
  • Have a computer at home with internet access and speakers.
  • Willingness to monitor an online Chat Line
  • Ability to provide a schedule of available days and times on an ongoing basis.

Additional skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Advanced knowledge of web searching techniques.
  • High level skills in Information technology skills, including database searching.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Flexible and technology friendly.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Bilingual and bi-cultural candidates are encouraged to apply.

Timeframe:

Start and end dates are flexible, however a commitment of 3 months is requested, and a period of 6 or more months is preferred.

Estimated hours: Volunteer hours are flexible and are available on a full or part-time basis; however a minimum of 4 hours per week is suggested.

Scheduling: Scheduling is flexible and will be determined together by the volunteer and the project manager.

Training Required: An initial week of training and orientation will be provided in order to acclimate Volunteers to Heart of Gloucester County's, mission, goals, programs and clientele, as well as to train in customer service and database usage.  Throughout the training process, our experienced trainers will monitor your performance and provide you with feedback when necessary.  All volunteers of the Warmline & Chatline have a background check, as you will be required to work with sensitive information.

In addition, volunteers will be trained to use the Chatline software and participate in up to 20 hours of communication training which covers resource and referral skills including professional code of conduct.

Location: While volunteers may work the Warmline & Chatline from our offices or the comfort of their home office, volunteers on rare occasion may also be asked to attend workshops, conferences or other offsite meetings and trainings as necessary.
