Volunteer Center of Door County Golden Heart Honorees Announced
 
Tickets are now available for the 10th annual Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration to be held on Thursday evening, April 26th at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay. This event honors outstanding volunteers in our community, recognizes the importance of the organizations through which they work and supports the Volunteer Center's programming.
 
Nominations are reviewed by an independent panel of judges representing different areas in our community. Twenty-six nominations were received for this year's event and include Youth honoree Matthias Olson and adult honorees are Carol Babb, Christina Baldwin, Chris DuCharme, Mary Green, Beth Hubbard, Paul Kok, John Tinnon and Gina Wautier. Group honorees are Gary Hollman & Sue Meyer of Loaves & Fishes, Lakeshore CAP Food Pantry Volunteers, Leadership Door County Volunteers, Jonathan & Jennifer Meacham of the YMCA, Southern Door Elementary 5th Grade Class and Paul & Leora Stangel of Habitat for Humanity. Arts & Culture honorees are Bill & Renee Bauernfeind, Birch Creek Associates Volunteer Organization, Susan Crawford & Jeffrey Rosemann, Steve Graf and Shirley Williams. The Lifetime of Service honorees are Tom Carpenter, Gloria Dernbach, Lorraine Dietrich, Virginia Henz, Jocko Rader and Bill Scholten.
 
During the celebration, each honoree will be individually recognized and presented with a nomination gift designed by Tara Nikko Rossman. The five award recipients will receive a custom designed art piece by Plum Bottom Pottery plus $500 to designate to a Door County charity of their choice. The Youth recipient will receive a $500 academic scholarship. 
 
Paige Kassner, 13 year old founder of "Warm Hands, Warm Hearts" a project dedicated to providing cold weather gear to children in Northeast Wisconsin will be the keynote speaker. Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer, philanthropist and women's health advocate, will be returning as Master of Ceremonies.
 
The Volunteer Center of Door County is pleased to present this event with the support of our Title Sponsor, Ministry Door County Medical Center as well as our major sponsors, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Baylake Bank, Door County Charities and Main Street Market.
