Camping Unlimited is a non-profit organization providing children and adults with special needs a full program of recreation, education, fun and adventure. Our program encourages independence, nurtures responsibility, develops competence and builds lifelong friendships in a warm supportive atmosphere. Nearly every weekend, activities include many fun and exciting recreational activities for participants with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and other intellectual/physical challenges. We offer Saturday day trips, (usually 9-5), weekend overnights, extended respite weekends, summer camps and travel programs. On trips that include overnights, we stay at our beautiful Camp Krem in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Volunteers may assist based on their availability and the Camping Unlimited schedules, typically signing up three weeks in advance.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers supervise and assist with activities that include: Attending sporting or theatrical events, going on picnics, attending backpacking or snow trips, visiting zoos, museums, exploring state parks or amusement parks, attending cultural events, festivals and more.

Volunteering on trips can be challenging but extremely rewarding. Volunteers should be good role-models and mentors, offering friendship to campers of all ability levels. They provide supervision and need to be observant of camper's individual abilities. They should have an understanding that certain campers may have behavioral differences.

On overnight outings, volunteers sleep in small cabin groups with the campers and assist with daily living skills as needed. They also assist by organizing and leading activities. On most trips, supervision and guidance will be provided by our Program Director and experienced staff or volunteers. Volunteers provide compassion, enthusiasm, maturity and good judgment. Their hard work is greatly appreciated.

FIRST STEP, TO APPLY: Please go to our website, wwww.campingunlimited.org. There is an online Volunteer application available under "Get Involved, Volunteer Opportunities".

We will contact you as soon as possible. We are looking forward to meeting you soon.

Camping Unlimited is seeking volunteers who are age 18+, are mature, friendly, have good judgment and a good sense of humor. Experience with children or those with special need is a plus.
