Alameda Point Collaborative
Last updated on May 20, 2016

Alameda Point Collaborative is a supportive housing community that uses all of its resources to help families and adults break the cycle of homelessness. We help to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where formerly homeless people can flourish. We have turned 34 acres and 200 units of former Navy housing into a thriving community.

The Alameda Point Collaborative was created to provide meaningful housing to homeless families throughout the East Bay. APC has transformed vacant housing at a decommissioned Naval Air Station into a supportive housing community serving 500 homeless residents of Alameda County. Housing that once enabled military families to stay close to their loved ones, now enables homeless families to reunite and stay together.

Residents are provided with the safety and stability of a place to live combined with life skills and job skills training, advocacy to connect with services, and emotional support all with the ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of homelessness and getting the support needed to be able to lead a stable, productive life.

APC Residents include survivors of domestic violence, adults and children with disabilities (including substance abuse, mental illness, and HIV/AIDS), and veterans and their families. The diversity of our community reflects the face of homelessness in Alameda County: 60% of our residents are African American, 21% are Native American, 8% are White, Hispanic and Latino make up 6%, Asian American and Pacific Islander are another 5%.

More than half of our residents (280) are youth ages 18 and under, and they receive special attention and support as we help them overcome generational cycles of domestic violence, substance abuse and homelessness to fulfill their right to be raised in a healthy, nurturing family.

APC was established in 1999 out of the conversion of the Base from the Navy. Our collaborative is made up of more than 30 different agencies that provide services to the homeless. We work together to bring stability to the lives of people who have suffered the trauma of being on the streets.
