Winning Futures - School-based Mentoring Organization
Last updated on March 24, 2016

Winning Futures' mission is to be an exemplary business-education partnership that inspires and prepares young people to be self-reliant and successful through life skills, strategic planning, mentoring, and scholarship programs.

To accomplish our mission, we believe that we must be responsive to the needs of everyone who receives our services. We implement and improve programs using information and input from our stakeholders: students, mentors, volunteers, educators, funders, board, and staff. We value people of all backgrounds irrespective of their gender, race, ethnic origin, disability, age, nationality, national origin, sexuality, religion, belief, marital status, or social class. We foster an environment of respect, openness, learning, integrity, and honesty. Our commitment to inclusiveness is evident in our organizational policies, procedures, and strategic plan.

Winning Futures is an award-winning non-profit organization that empowers youth to succeed through mentoring and strategic planning. We partner with high schools in metro Detroit to facilitate weekly innovative mentoring sessions in the school where we engage youth through trusting relationships with mentors, energizing experiences, and unforgettable life lessons. This weekly program is unique in that it has a fun, structured curriculum where mentors teach students though hands-on activities, written exercises, and group discussions. We focus on character value development, self-exploration, goal setting, job readiness skills, overcoming obstacles, and strategic planning. Through a long-term study, we found that 95% of our students have continued their education past high school and 96% are employed. We have awarded over $1.7M in scholarships to local youth, and since 1994, we have impacted 40,000 students.

Winning Futures began in 1994 by Sam Cupp, C.E.O. of Hamilton Group International, in the Warren Consolidated School District (WCS). Sam's illustrious career began with the help of a teacher, a counselor, and a businessman working together for the best interest of the student. In turn, he wanted to give back to his community, and with the help of the same teacher and businessman, create a program that would initiate this type of partnership for students.
