Volunteer Opportunity - Life Enrichment PLUS Program Recommended Agencies

Volunteers will assist participants and the Life Enrichment PLUS Lead in a new pilot program offering classes, caregiver support, and aid to the formerly-independent senior in their transition from independence to adult day care. The Bridge Program will offer seniors with early signs of cognitive disorder support in socialization, classes and therapies to help them maintain independence as long as possible. The volunteer will assist caregivers by supporting the development of a formal assessment and care plan, guiding seniors through their programs, and assisting with activities. In addition, the volunteer will document observations about seniors participating in the program. The applicant must be personable and patient. They must be able to work with older persons and the The Volen Center staff, assist with enrollment and care planning, document all activity, serve as a companion for participating seniors ensuring that they attend scheduled activities. Volunteers will be trained by the Coordinator on topics such as safety, the nature and progress of cognitive disorders, observing and recording observations and client activities. Training will be provided. Volunteers will be working with cognitive disabilities and must be able to abide by the policies and rules of the The Volen Center. Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Background check required.

Follow the road around to the back, passing Hospice by the Sea. Mae Volen Senior Center is a large one story white building located directly east of I 95 and west of the K Mart shopping plaza on Palmetto Park Road.
