Mission Statement:

The mission of The Women’s Community is to provide specialized services and resources to people in central Wisconsin affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and unemployment. Our goal is to help individuals and families attain greater emotional and economic self-sufficiency.

Vision:

Our vision as a model organization empowers communities and individuals who have survived the effects of violence and oppression through the provision of quality programming, advocacy and education. The ultimate goal being to reduce-eradicate violence.

Description:
The Women’s Community, Inc encompasses several specialized programs:

The Abuse in Later Life Program provides crisis services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault age 50 and older. Services include individual counseling, support groups, medical advocacy, legal advocacy and criminal justice support, information and referral services for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

The Domestic Abuse Program provides crisis services to victims of domestic violence and their children, including a 24-hour support phone line (842-7323 or 888-665-1234), emergency shelter for victims, domestic abuse counseling, support groups, legal advocacy and criminal justice support, and information and referral services.

Healing Through Art is a program that offers creative expressions as a healing tool for victims of violence. Workshops are offered in a safe environment, allowing victims to reflect on their past and find new strength and a greater sense of hope.

The Hispanic Advocate Program has bilingual, bicultural, Spanish-speaking advocates who work in conjunction with the other program advocates to provide specialized services to Spanish-speaking victims of sexual and domestic abuse.

The Sexual Assault Victim Services Program provides support, medical advocacy, legal advocacy and criminal justice support, and referral services for victims of sexual assault, adult survivors of child sexual abuse, child sexual abuse victims, non-offending parents and caregivers, and sexual harassment victims. This program also offers support groups for children, teens and adults affected by sexual violence.

The Shelter Program provides crisis services to victims of domestic violence and their children, including a 24-hour support phone line (842-7323), emergency shelter for victims, domestic abuse counseling, and information and referral services.

The Southeast Asian Program has bilingual, bicultural, Hmong-speaking advocates who work in conjunction with the other program advocates to provide specialized services to Southeast Asian victims of sexual and domestic abuse.

The Transitional Living Program provides long-term supportive services to victims/survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children during the transitional period after leaving an abusive relationship and continuing until program participants feel emotionally and financially self-sufficient. Services include individual counseling, support groups, assistance in finding secure, affordable housing, referral to and coordination of other community resources, and the PAWS (Protecting Animals With SafeHavens) Project. Services are also provided for women who need special assistance in entering/re-entering the job market or furthering education.

The Women’s Community supportive services provided by each individual program includes but are not limited to safety planning, medical and legal advocacy, law enforcement advocacy, children’s advocacy, referrals to community resources, and support groups.
