Maurie Read - Civic and Community

As a Eugene Police Department volunteer since 2004, Maurie cleans and performs maintenance checks on the squad cars and also serves as a Property Control Unit assistant, cleaning the warehouse where purged property is stored and assisting with auction transport.  His upbeat attitude is an inspiration to many police staff members.  Maurie also volunteers weekly at the Church of Latter-day Saints temple in  Lake Oswego.

Volunteer Hours:  About 16 hours per week; nearly 2,000 hours this past year.

"Maurie brings brightness to us as we go about our jobs.  It's easy to get wrapped up in the issue of the moment and forget what's important...then along comes Maurie with a smile and a chocolate hidden in his hand...His entire life has been spent making sure folks are safe at home and kids are safe at school, and now he maintains the equipment the officers need and rely upon so they can do the same thing."  - Scott Thomas, Eugene Police Department
