Nearby Nature is a nonprofit environmental education group dedicated to fostering appreciation of nature nearby and providing tools for ecologcal living. Nearby Nature works from the perspective that nature is everywhere--in our backyards, our city parks, and our local natural areas.

Nearby Nature's staff and volunteers lead nature walks, host school programs, teach summer daycamps, and work on environmental restoration projects in local parks and open spaces. Nearby Nature also serves as the City of Eugene's official caretaker in Alton Baker Park, maintains an educational Learnscape Garden, and teaches classes for the Network Charter School. Most of Nearby Nature's programs take place in Alton Baker Park.

Nearby Nature has a paid part-time staff of ten (plua additional folks in the summer) and a volunteer corps of over 200 people, who donate 6,500+ hours of their time to the group's projects every year. Volunteers are essential to Nearby Nature! They do everything from leading hands-on nature walks for elementary school children to making entertaining presentations in costume to gardening to litter patrol to restoration projects.

Nearby Nature's volunteers come from all walks of life and are folks of all ages. They are educators and students, botanists and bus drivers, grandmothers and gardeners. They also write computer programs, take photographs, and fold newsletters!

Nearby Nature welcomes and encourages the participation of all community members in its programs. For more information, see Nearby Nature's web page at
