Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets (PSKS) is seeking volunteer tutors for the RISK (“Re-Inventing Steps to Knowledge”) Learning Center. The RISK Learning Center offers GED test preparation support for students who are 16-25 years old and homeless, at risk of homelessness, or underserved. The RISK Learning Center is a small scale, alternative school located on Capitol Hill and is open Monday-Friday, 1-4pm.

Volunteers do not need specialized education or training to tutor students, but should be comfortable assisting students with a variety of material including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. All curriculum and classroom materials will be provided by the Learning Center Director. The ideal volunteer candidate will have previous tutoring/mentoring experience and familiarity with the challenges that at-risk youth and young adults face.

We are seeking candidates able to volunteer 1-2 times a week (1-4 hours) for at least 10 weeks. The RISK Learning Center Director will make accommodations for volunteers with the right mix of passion and ability.

Volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, and attend an information and training session. If you are interested in a volunteer tutoring position, please contact Olivia Pryor, the Learning Center Director below for application materials.
