Seattle Area Feline Rescue (formerly Animal Talk Rescue)
Last updated on April 19, 2014

Seattle Area Feline Rescue (SAFeR's) mission is "To end the plight and suffering of homeless, neglected and abused companion animals, and to educate the public about the benefits of spaying and neutering."

Description:
SAFeR is a no-kill rescue and adoption center for cats and kittens. To date, SAFeR has provided food, shelter, medical care and new adoptive homes for nearly 7,000 abused, abandoned or neglected companion animals. We use volunteers and foster homes to care for our kitties. If they are sick, we nurse them back to health. If they are too young to be adopted, they spend time in a foster home. When a kitty is healthy and happy, we adopt them from our adoption center in Shoreline.

History:
SAFeR was formed in 1990 when boxes of abandoned kittens began appearing on the doorstep of a Seattle neighborhood pet shop. Store staff and neighbors cared for them and eventually found them new homes. SAFeR continued to grow, becoming a registered 501c(3) rescue in 2000.

ATR is almost totally volunteer-based (less than 0.5 FTE occasional paid staff), with over 100 regular volunteers who clean the kennel areas and care for animals 365 days of the year. In addition, more than 50 foster homes provide care for motherless, sick or frail cats and kittens until they are medically stable and can find new homes.
