Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 15, 2015

The UW Arboretum's Longenecker Gardens are renowned for their collections of lilacs, conifers, and crabapples. Be a vital part of maintaining the Gardens by weeding, spreading mulch, planting, pruning and removing specimens. As you work you'll learn about the newest varieties of trees and shrubs on the market, and have the opportunity to ask questions of our expert gardeners. Volunteers will help maintain and beautify the Longenecker Gardens through their work. Activities vary with the season. Some group opportunities available.

It is helpful but not required that volunteers have some gardening experience. The work does involve bending, kneeling, working on hands and knees, lifting up to 25 pounds, and being out in a variety of weather conditions.

a relaxed, appreciative environment

I volunteered at the Arboretum a few years ago and worked on their archives. It was a very pleasant environment and everyone was so friendly and appreciative. I'd highly recommend it!
