Horizons for Homeless Children - MA - Central Massachusetts Youth Volunteers

Agency Details:

Horizons for Homeless Children - MA - Central Massachusetts
Last updated on February 23, 2016

Horizons for Homeless Children improves the lives of young children who experience homelessness and helps their families to succeed. We accomplish this by providing:

--High quality early education and opportunities for play
--Comprehensive family support services
--Advocacy on behalf of young children experiencing homelessness
--Training and technical assistance for other providers with similar objectives

In central MA, Horizons for Homeless Children installs Playspaces in family shelters. Complete with educational toys, games, books, and arts and craft supplies, Playspaces help homeless children have the opportunity to grow and develop in healthy ways and assist them in achieving success in school and beyond. In addition, the program trains and places volunteers in Playspaces to play with the children as their parents are involved in other activities.

Founded in 1988, Horizons for Homeless Children (formerly The Horizons Initiative) is Massachusetts's only non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to meeting the needs of homeless children and their families. The Playspace Programs install and equip playspaces in family shelters and train volunteers to work and play with children.
