The SASH Volunteer Service Council's primary mission is to promote and enhance the well-being of SASH's patients and contribute to patients' rehabilitation and recreational needs.

The Volunteer Service Council for San Antonio State Hospital is a state-chartered, 501(c)3,non-profit organization. The council was founded in 1952 with the assistance from the Woman's Club of San Antonio. VSC mission is achieved by soliciting donated goods, services, and funds. It also generates better understanding and awareness of the hospital and its role in the community. VSC assists with and supports hospital functions as they relate to overall patient care, rehabilitation,increased public awareness of mental illness and its treatment.

The San Antonio State Hospital first opened its doors in 1892. It is one of 10 state psychiatric hospitals in the Texas Department of State Health Services. In-patient capacity is 302 beds. The staff of about 900 full-time employees, provides a complete range of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services on an in-patient basis. SASH if fully accreditation by the Joint Commission and meets the same criteria as every other hospital reviewed by the Commission. Services include inpatient care for adolescent, adults requiring acute psychiatric care, adults requiring extended psychiatric care, and geriatric psychiatric care

 Take I37 South exit on Pecan Valley exit. Turn right and proceed to traffic light. Drive straight into the San Antonio State Hospital main gate and stop at guard station and ask the guard for map and directions to Community relations building/Logan Hall.
