Agency - Birthright of Charleston

Agency Details:

Birthright of Charleston
Last updated on May 24, 2013

It is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth and the right of every child to be born.

Description:
Birthright is an emergency pregnancy service. We help every woman who calls on us about an unplanned pregnancy. We take a personal interest in the client and we have an appreciation for her specific needs. We also make appropriate use of community resources to help resolve her difficulties. We make ourselves readily available to listen, to talk, and to guide the client in developing a plan for her future. Volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at our local office and the Birthright hotline at 1-800-550-4900.

History:
Birthright International was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1968 by Louise Summerhill. Mrs. Summerhill's personal response to the despair of the pregnant woman led to the establishment of Birthright. There are Birthright centers in Canada, Ghana, South Africa, Korea, and throughtout the United States. Birthright of Charleston was founded in 1974. We have been at our current location since 1997. All Birthright Chapters offer the same non-sectarian, non-moralistic, non-judgmental alternative to abortion.
