As the oldest voluntary health organization in the United States, the American Lung Association's mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through Education, Advocacy and Research.

Description:
As a charter member of the nationwide organization, the American Lung Association of the Midland States is committed to carrying out this mission in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. In communities throughout the Midland States region, the American Lung Association is working to improve life one breath at a time through education, advocacy and research.

The American Lung Association of the Midland States is funded by public donations, along with gifts and grants from corporations, foundations, government agencies and nongovernmental organizations.

From tuberculosis to asthma, from tobacco control to clean indoor and outdoor air, the lung health successes achieved during the American Lung Association's century of service have been gained only through the work of thousands of committed volunteers, dedicated staff and generous supporters.

History:
As America's oldest and most widely respected nonprofit voluntary health organizations, the American Lung Association has worked for more than a century to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. While our early roots lay in taking on tuberculosis, our work has broadened over time to keep pace with advances in science and technology and the changing nature of what know about lung disease. In today's world, our focus includes tobacco control, clean indoor and outdoor air, asthma, lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As part a nationwide organization supported by a legion of dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and lung health experts, the American Lung Association of the Midland States is fighting for air for the benefit of children and adults throughout our region.
