The Maine Disaster Relief Fund was created to provide rapid access to funds needed by Maine-based disaster relief organizations that respond to the immediate and basic needs of individauls impacted by disasters in Maine. If sufficient funds are available, they will also be used to help meet longer term basic needs that cannot be met through other sources.
Immediate needs are those related to a disaster survivor's safety, sanitation, and functional well-being until permanent relief from other sources become available. Needs may include, but are not limited to, emergency food, shelter and clothing; medicines or assistive devices; temporary or emergency repairs to a primary residence; and tree or other debris removal to regain access to a residence.
