JA in a Day - John T. Baker Middle School

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 20, 2016

In the 2016-2017 school year, Junior Achievement is looking for individuals and groups to volunteer with 6th grade students in Montgomery County Public Schools.

For each "JA in a Day," volunteers visit middle schools to teach 6th grade students about budgeting, credit cards, debit cards and insurance. Through pre-developed curriculum, volunteers lead students through activities and games to teach financial literacy in a fun way! JA in a Days typically take place over 5 hours during the school day.

This a great opportunity for corporate organizations to volunteer in larger groups. The organizations we work with find this as an effective way for employees to build strong working relationships with one another and allows for team building. Companies find that this is a fun way for employees to give back to their community in a collaborative environment. We have opportunities available for groups ranging from 10 to 40 volunteers depending on the size of the school.

We also welcome individuals to volunteer at JA in a Days as you get to meet volunteers from other organizations and work with students in one high impact day.

There is a 90-minute training session required for all new volunteers. Volunteers are prepped with classroom management techniques and given an orientation to the program materials.
