BRAWS: Bringing Resources To Aid Women's Shelters

BRAWS's mission is to support women and girls in shelters by providing new bras, new underwear, and sealed packages of feminine hygiene supplies, some of the most requested essentials by women in shelters. These items are rarely donated, expensive for shelters to purchase, and not covered by government assistance programs, such as SNAP, WIC, or Medicaid. Insufficient access to these items often leads to unsanitary conditions, health problems, inability to work or attend school, and overall loss of dignity.

Description:
BRAWS serves as an important resource for shelters, social services programs, schools, and other charitable organizations by providing new bras, new underwear, and sealed packages of feminine hygiene products to the women and girls who make up such a large portion of the homeless population.

BRAWS partners with local homeless shelters and transitional housing programs to ensure equitable distribution of donated items to women and girls in the greatest need.
Our programs serve clients of all backgrounds, ages, and situations. BRAWS provides emergency relief services to domestic violence shelters - delivering items on demand. BRAWS also offers clients in short-term shelters the opportunity on designated days to "shop" for items from our inventory. BRAWS also has a unique program, funded partially by a generous grant award, in which local homeless girls receive a year's supply of feminine hygiene products.
These opportunities may be among the first positive and dignity-building moments these women and girls experience after disruptive, life-changing events.
