Takoma Park Folk Festival, Inc. (TPFF) was formed in 1982, for the purpose of producing a festival in September every year in Takoma Park, Maryland. The mission of TPFF is to showcase music, dance, and storytelling from cultures around the world in a music festival that is accessible and welcoming to the entire metropolitan DC community.

Description:
Since its inception, the Takoma Park Folk Festival has been a community affair, organized by volunteers from the Takoma Park area. The Takoma Park Folk Festival continues to be an event by and for the community of Takoma Park, as well as the greater Washington, DC area, and its all-volunteer organizing committee and performers maintain the legacy of founder Sam Abbott, artist, activist, organizer, and Mayor (1980 to 1986).

That first year, 1978, a one-stage festival was held at Takoma Park Junior High School, and it raised about $1,100 to help keep the Takoma Theatre out of the hands of a developer. Since that time, the festival has grown in size and stature, but it has remained true to its roots as a celebration by and for Takoma Park residents.

Takoma Park Folk Festival, Inc. (the Festival) was formed in 1982, for the purpose of producing a festival in September every year in Takoma Park, Maryland. Local vendors and artisans participate in support of the Festival. The Festival works with groups of volunteers from local non-profits, with the intent that those groups be compensated for their time to produce the festival, if funds are available. Community groups are invited to set up tables where they can promote their services. In addition, the festival has at times introduced other elements, such as commemorative recordings and special events.
