RSS XML FeedBackground Active Jan 30, 2012 to Feb 10, 2012

As you may have heard last week, First Lady Michelle Obama has scheduled a visit to Des Moines on Thursday, February 9 (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20120119/NEWS/301190077/Iowa-trips-announced-for-Obama-first-lady).  The event helps commemorate the second anniversary of the "Let's Move" initiative, started by Mrs. Obama, which is an effort to improve children's health and reduce obesity (http://www.letsmove.gov/).  The event is seeking volunteers to assist in this celebration.

This "high-energy" event celebrates all that Iowa has done to help kids lead healthier lives, advances the greater good of health promotion in youth, and fits nicely with the larger effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.  Thousands of schoolchildren are being invited to celebrate the work of Let's Move, which will be held at Wells Fargo Arena.  Gov. Terry Branstad and Former Gov. Tom Vilsack also are making plans to participate.

There is a need for 400 volunteers to assist with the event.  More specific details on these roles are available from the event organizers liaisoning with the First Lady's team, but we are anticipating volunteer needs between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  If you are interested and would like to commit to volunteering, please email your contact information to mcgarveym@wellmark.com or call 515/376-4819.
