Help The Community With Tax Preparation

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Oct 1, 2013 to Apr 15, 2014

We live in a tough economy and most people can not afford to pay for tax services, especially if they are working a minimum wage job.  Volunteers are essential in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.  Every year, 10-15 volunteers work hard to prepare over 700 tax returns.  Volunteers are trained as greeters, appointment schedulers, wrap up coordinators, or tax preparers.   The best parts about being a Volunteer Tax Assistant is the free training and getting to help people, who without the assistance would need to pay hundreds of dollars to fulfill a federal requirment.  No experience is needed.  Training is provided and volunteers become certified as a tax preparer.    The training is schedule for two hour increments a week over the course of a few weeks a month.  The tax season starts in February.  Volunteers are asked to fill 2 shifts of 3 hours a piece.  Shifts are designed with the volunteer in mind.  They are flexible and meet the volunteer's schedule.
