Urban Bike Project

Our Mission is to serve the community's needs by educating and promoting cycling as a safe, practical, cost-efficient mode of transportation. Our facilities provide a means for the public to become more self-sufficient both in bicycle maintenance and transportation. We work to foster a greater sense of awareness in motorists, pedestrians, and the community at large.

Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, Inc. is a small non-profit organization based out of Wilmington, Delaware. We are currently located at 1908 North Market Street, in the basement, accessible around back.
Open Workshop exists to provide community members with a friendly environment to repair their bicycles, shop for used bicycles and parts as well as to provide city youth an opportunity to learn mechanical skills while at the same time making their bikes safe.  We have a full compliment of tools and workstations and our knowledgeable volunteers can help you with anything from changing a flat tire to truing wheels or replacing a bottom bracket.
Volunteers are needed in many areas such as pick-up of donated bicycles, sorting and organizing parts (this can be surprisingly satisfying), check-in/greeter position, staffing an information table in the community and others.  Most volunteers only need a few minutes of training to get started however, we have a special way of instructing City youth and customers that enables them to "learn-by-doing" and feel good about repairing their bicycle themselves, regardless of mechanical skill.
