Restorative Justice School Sharing Circles: the perfect way to support D 65's 5 Essentials
Volunteering at Restorative Justice School Sharing Circles with 1st and 4th grade students was a perfect way to observe, advocate and reinforce District 65's Essential components: ambitious instruction, effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families and supportive environment. Students are learning to speak and write effectively, master skills, think critically and creatively...; be respectful, kind, attentive, and cooperative with all; celebrate academic and personal successes; involve their families and friends in their educational journies; and create school environments that are safe, welcoming, engaging and provocative.

amazing impact in a short time!
I worked with a 1st grade class of 23 students. It was thrilling to watch the kids grasp the concepts of sharing, healthy communication, patience, thoughtfulness, thankfulness, etc. I see this as the key to peace in Evanston and the world beyond: to teach kids early about these concepts and learn to live by them.
