TO PROVIDE THE CITY OF EVANSTON, INCLUDING RESIDENTS AND ORGANIZATIONS, BOTH CIVIC AND PRIVATE WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD

Description:
ECTV seeks out and encourages all segments of the Evanston community to learn to use video equipment and tell a story to broadcast on the local cable access channels. Whatever your story or vision may be, ECTV is the place to use your right to freedom of speech.
We train video equipment, editing software, have studio and field productions.
We fundraise and write grants, do office work, engineering, have nearly 200 members.

History:
Evanston Community Television in 1986 as a result of negotiations between the city of Evanston, the local cable operator (Cablevision of Chicago), and concerned citizen groups. ECTV is an independent not-for-profit organization which administers the community access channels in Evanston.
Equal access by all Evanstonians to Evanston’s public access channels and facilities is available. We provide the tools, training, and support that the community needs to use the channels effectively. The station actively encourages all of the Evanston population to participate in public, educational and governmental access; and to advocate for continued free access to the cable television system.
