Volunteer Opportunity - Meals on Wheels Driver

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on December 27, 2013

The Lake County Council on Aging And Disability Resource Center provides over 220,000 meals to Lake County senior citizens each year. Volunteers help heat and pack food for drivers, deliver food to residents unable to drive to one of our congregate centers and provide seniors with interaction and a quick assessment. For many, the Meals on Wheels Driver is the only person they will see or talk to for the day. Our clients look forward to seeing our volunteers as well as receiving a prepared hot meal. We couldn't do what we do without volunteers.

We need people to deliver lunchtime meals to home-bound clients that do not have easy access to getting food or the ability to regularly cook. Meals are delivered during the week around the lunchtime hours. Some clients also receive frozen meals for Saturday and Sunday with their Friday delivery.

•Experience and/or interest in working with home-bound elderly in Lake County.
•Dependable, flexibility and patience
•Have a familiarity with the local community and neighborhood
•Good communication skills
•Access to reliable transportation, valid license and car registration as well as proof of auto insurance
•Observation skills and comfort as well as initiative in following up on contacts and client’s needs/concerns
•Willingness to participate in training sessions
•Ability to pass a background check
