Literacy Enrichment Volunteers in Cleveland Metropolitan Schools

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 28, 2015

The Public Education Initiative (PEI) of the Jewish Community Federation provides a corps of literacy enrichment tutors who volunteer weekly at seven sites in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Our 7 partner sites are: Bolton School,Buhrer Dual Language School, Case Elementary, E-Prep Breakthrough Charter School, Village Prep (also BCS), Harvey Rice Wraparound and the MC2STEM High School (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Tutors are required to commit to one day a week for one hour during the school day. Tutors follow a structured program designed to advance reading levels and enhance comprehension in the elementary schools. Other volunteer opportunities exist as homework helpers at E-Prep Middle School and math/ science tutors at the STEM high school. Program runs October through May. Training is required and provided in September. Must be available ALL SCHOOL YEAR (not a great fit for Snowbirds).

Training is required. The Jewish Community Federation provides a group training each fall, and individual training sessions are provided as needed.
