The Thea Bowman Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is a community of neighbors, volunteers, and friends of Mt. Pleasant dedicated to affirming the spirit, engaging the mind, and nurturing the body.

Thea Bowman Center is a community center that provides the following services: a food pantry, hot buffet lunch every Saturday afternoon; after school and Saturday morning activities for children; adult literacy and GED preparation daily on Mondays to Thursdays; and Computer training classes for adults.

Thea Bowman Center is an outreach center that began in 1966 with a food pantry. It was part of the mission of the Epiphany Catholic Church. In the 1970's a daycare was developed in the former school space, and still exists as Oakfield Child Care Center.
In the 1980's, the program of summer lunches for children began, as well as the hot buffet lunch each Saturday.

In the 1990's several activities for children began through the Church-in-the-City initiative of the Catholic Church.
In the early 2000's, the computer lab opened; and in 2008, TBC took over the Adult Literacy/GED class which has expanded into three programs that enable adult instruction 24 hours per week on Mondays to Thursdays. TBC continues to offer services to the Mt. Pleasant community to enrich the quality of life.
Thea Bowman Center collaborates with many organizations including 4-H, MetroParks, Parade the Circle, the Literacy Cooperative, and the Foodbank.
