Book Sorter/Pricer For Library Book Sale

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Jun 16, 2011 to Jul 16, 2011

Support the Friends of the Library in two of their largest fund-raising programs, the semi-annual sales and the Friends of the Library bookstore at the Central Library. The books, magazines, DVDs and CDs that are generously donated by the community are organized before they can be sold. This process involves unpacking, sorting, repacking and labeling books for the sale or bookstore. Assistance is also needed restocking the bookstore, keeping the shelves organized and neat, shifting merchandise and removing unsold books.

The Friends of the Arlington Public Library is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage and assist the Arlington Public Library in providing the highest quality library services.

We ask for 3-4 hours on two weekday mornings following 2-3 weeks of training and for a six-month commitment. The ability to volunteer on an occasional weekend would be desirable.

People 18 years and older must consent to a background check.

Volunteers need to be able to lift heavy boxes and move carts filled with books and other media, sort, pack and shelve materials; follow established guidelines for pricing books; make independent decisions regarding genre, quality and age of materials; pay attention to detailed information; support and practice Library customer service standards. Training is provided.

To volunteer, click on the link for the application here.

The volunteer coordinator will review your application and get back to you. You can generally expect to hear back from her within five business days of submitting your application.
