Thank you for your interest in volunteering.   We want to wish you a belated Happy New Year. As you make your resolutions this January, consider how you can resolve to give back and get involved. With hundreds of volunteer opportunities at a wide range of commitment levels, there is a need that fits your skills, interests, and abilities to serve.

The Volunteer Now! Winter 2011 publication, a listing of recent volunteer needs in Arlington, is now online with links directly to the opportunity descriptions.  Feel free to share it with your friends and neighbors, social networks or print it out and hang it up at your local coffee shop! 

For local and national highlights, check out these current volunteer NEWS & SPOTLIGHTS:

  • A Day On, Not a Day Off; MLK Day of Service - Make January 17th a day on, not a day off to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  In honor of Dr. King there will be many different ways to celebrate, remember, practice what he preached, and give back.  
  • Dental Assistant - Gain experience in a Public Health setting by working with both children and senior citizens at the Dental Clinic. The dental assistant works chairside and provides clinical setups, as well as doing some administrative work.
  • Investment Advisor - The Friends of Arlington Public Library has been growing it's endowment for the last several years and would like some investment advice concerning how to keep it increasing. They are looking for someone with experience working with non-profit organizations to review their portfolio and advise them on how best to manage it.
  • Senior Adult Travel Trip Leaders (bi-lingual) - Volunteers lead bus excursions in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area for senior adults.   • Sidewalk Snow Clearing Volunteers - Arlington County Civic Associations are seeking volunteers who are interested in assisting their neighborhood with sidewalk snow clearing efforts. Register thru the Online Volunteer Connection to receive an email notification when sidewalk snow clearing assistance is needed in your neighborhood.
