Arlington County is an inclusive community that values diversity by creating community among people and gaining  benefits from their differences.  The County also has a long history of community involvement; recruiting volunteers of multicultural backgrounds to connect with the community is a natural extension of its rich history. In 2007 the Northern Virginia Multicultural Recruitment Committee was established as a first step to encourage the recruitment of multicultural volunteers.  The Committe was an initiative supported by Arlington County Board Chairman, J. Walter Tejada and Alexandria City Mayor William Euille to recruit more volunteers of multicultural backgrounds to help in many public and private programs addressing the needs of families with children, youths, individuals and senior citizens.
