
Why is this event so important? Physical activity and friendly competition engage the mind as well as the body. Veteran's Administration (VA) research and clinical experience verify that physical activity is particularly important to the health, recovery and overall quality of life for older people. The National Veterans Golden Age Games encourage VA patients over the age of 55 to make physical activity a central part of their lives, and support VA's comprehensive recreation and rehabilitation therapy programs.
Over 800 veteran athletes will be competing in the various sporting events including Nine-ball, Air Rifle, Bowling, Checkers, Croquet, Cycling, Discus, Dominoes, Outrigger Canoeing, Golf, Horseshoes, Shot Put, Shuffleboard, Swimming, and Table Tennis. So how can you help? From the time the athletes arrive in Hawaii until the time they board their planes for home, volunteers are needed. Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:
