Project CAR
Last updated on June 21, 2011

Project CAR is a coordinated transportation system which seeks to provide safe, efficient transportation for senior citizens who are involved in activities sponsored by the supporting organizations. Project CAR volunteers serve those who are isolated from activities because of transportation needs.

Description:
Vans, cars and buses are scheduled to take registered riders to church activities, Senior Companion and RSVP assignments, and special scheduled activities. Sponsoring organizations are: First Congregational Church; First Lutheran Church; Our Savior's Lutheran Church; St John's Lutheran Church; St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Senior Companion Program. Our purpose is to provide safe, efficient transportation. We provide a means for sponsoring churches' senior citizen members to worship and volunteer. Funding is obtained from contributions from sponsors, civic groups, the City of Sioux Falls and individual donations. Annually, the agency sponsors a fall fund raiser, the Soup, Sandwich, and Sweet Day.

History:
The Project CAR (Call-A-Ride) agency was formed in 1980. It began as a program for senior citizens and people with disabilities who needed rides to worship at participating churches. It has grown steadily over the years.
