Emerald Youth Foundation aims to raise up a large number of urban youth to love Jesus Christ and become effective leaders who help renew their neighborhoods.
Description:
We serve approximately 1,200 children, youth, and young adults through a growing network of urban churches with the help of about 250 committed adult volunteers each year.
Programs of Emerald Youth Foundation include:
-JustLead
-Emerald Youth Fellows
-Emerald Youth Sports
JustLead is a neighborhood ministry model which plants youth workers together with churches across the city to provide afterschool, summer, discipleship, and mentoring experiences. As referenced in the Isaiah passage, Just refers to righteous and Lead refers to the actions of youth who rebuild, restore, and renew their communities. That why we refer to participants as Just Leaders. Learn more by visiting emeraldyouth.org.
Emerald Youth Fellows is an older youth to young adult transition program providing intensive leadership development opportunities while students are pursuing post-secondary training. This program targets a selected subset of 12-15 high school seniors each year to better ensure a successful transition to become leaders in their urban communities. After graduation, these seniors will enroll in residential college, a commuter school, or a trade school and receive intensive mentoring, discipleship, and Christian leadership training while they are completing their studies.
Emerald Youth Sports is a tiered program with fun and wellness, skills and competitive levels for basketball, soccer, wrestling, baseball, volleyball, and swim. Year-round leagues, teams, and clinics are part of the program.
History:
Emerald Youth Foundation is a non-denominational, urban children and youth ministry located in the heart of Knoxville, Tennessee. Our ministry grew out of a vision of Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church in 1988 to serve young people in the low to moderate income community of Oakwood-Lincoln Park in North Knoxville.
Emerald Youth Foundation was incorporated in 1991 as a 501 (c)(3) organization, and in 1999, started a youth leadership development ministry that is now called JustLead.
