Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will host an orientation for prospective volunteers on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 5:45-7 pm at their shelter at 147 Grassy Plain Street in Bethel. Volunteers must be at least 18. You will learn about the history of DAWS, about their dog and cat programs, policies and procedures for volunteers, be given a tour, and learn about available volunteer opportunities. Red Cross Disaster Volunteer Recruitment is in full swing in Connecticut. There will be an information session in Bethel on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 8:30 to 3:30. This free workshop will provide information on the impact of disasters, how communities respond, the role of the Red Cross, and how the local Disaster Action Team assists clients. Disaster volunteers may work with families to provide assistance, assist with damage assessment, communications, shelter operations, There is a wide range of time and skill levels to accommodate almost any interest.
