Housatonic Habitat for Humanity is people working in partnership to build homes for the inadequately sheltered, creating self-reliant families and enriched communities. We build simple, comfortable homes in partnership with people of compassion and future homeowner families.

Volunteers provide most of the labor; individuals and corporate donors provide money and materials.

Description:
Habitat for Humanity International, headquartered in Americus, Georgia, was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976 with the conviction that every person should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live. Today the organization:

  • has over 2100 affiliates, in every U.S. state and 92 other countries
  • has built more than 150,000 homes sheltering more than 750,000 people
  • projects building over 200,000 houses by the year 2005
  • completes a new home, somewhere in the world, every 30 minutes
  • is among the largest U.S. homebuilders, in terms of units completed annually
  • is a non-profit, tax exempt, ecumenical Christian-based organization that welcomes all people, regardless of race, color, religion, or creed.

  • History:
Housatonic Habitat for Humanity was chartered in 1991 to bring the national organization's mission to the Danbury area. We have built over 15 homes in the greater Danbury area and have plans to continue building in this area.

Volunteer Reflections    Post Your Own!

Housatonic Habitat for Humanity 4 Overall Experience    Experience rating
Performing duties for the public without wages, which is much more self-gratifying than anything else. Great feeling of self-satisfaction.

Danbury Hospital volunteer with Pathology Department. General clerical duties. Excel in typing skills due to the fact of former State Employee with Judicial Department, Court Monitor. The written word spoken "verbatim" must be taken down with utmost accuracy. Written records remain seven to ten years in file.
