MLK Day is a national day of service so join us and "Make it a day ON...not a day off!"

Several MLK Day events are being hosted in Ames. Click here to view service projects and sign-up online. Projects include making care packages, a supermarket stakeout food drive, sorting clothing donations, creating greeting cards, and cleaning and organizing rooms at a shelter.

Community Cinema:

Location: Collegiate United Methodist & Wesley Foundation Annex, 130 South Sheldon, Ames
View "Food Stamped;" with 1 out of 8 Americans on food assistance, this documentary explores America's food system & if people can eat a healthy, well-balanced diet on a food stamp budget. Following the film, discuss Story County's hidden hunger & how we can work toward Dr. King's vision of a community that does not allow hunger, poverty, & homelessness to exist.
Birthday Celebration:
6-7:30 pm
Location: Ames Middle School
A variety of community groups will present songs, skits and speeches celebrating the life and inspirationi of Dr. King. Birthday cake served from 6-6:20 pm, program from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Food Drive:
A food drive will be conducted throughout MLK Day - canned food and other nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the Collegiate United Methodist & Wesley Foundation Annex's auditorium during the day (9am-4pm) or at the Celebration event in the evening. Donations will go to the MICA food pantry.
