Our Mission
Chabot Space & Science Center inspires and educates students of all ages about our Planet Earth and the Universe. Its observatory, planetarium, exhibits, and natural park setting are a place where a diverse population of students, teachers, and the public can imagine, understand, and learn to shape their future through science.
Description:
Chabot Space & Science Center is a full service hands-on science center featuring exhibits, planetarium, megadome, telescopes and unique opportunities for visitors of all ages.
Student Programs: Innovative and effective on-site and outreach K-12 programs will serve over 50,000 school children annually.
Teacher Programs: Up to 2,000 K-12 teachers annually can take part in professional development programs, who in turn reach up to 60,000 Bay Area students each year.
Public Programs: More than 200,000 yearly visitors have access to an array of science and technology educational experiences, including classes, lectures, shows and interactive exhibits.

Since 1883, Chabot Space & Science Center has been providing inspirational science education to the diverse community we serve. Our rich history is coupled with the latest technology in a fun-filled, hands-on center where questions about our universe, which includes our own planet, are explored and answered.
Enveloped in a redwood laced, parkland environment, our interactive exhibits and larger-than-life shows immerse visitors in the wonders of the cosmos, encouraging participation in its splendor. Opened August 19, 2000, the new Chabot Space & Science Center is an 86,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art science and technology education facility on a 13-acre site in the hills of Oakland, California.

Directions:
| From downtown Oakland, or San Francisco: Go east on I 580 to Highway 24 (towards Walnut Creek). From 24, go south on Highway 13 (Warren Freeway) towards Hayward. Take the Joaquin Miller/ Lincoln Avenue exit. Turn left and proceed up the hill on Joaquin Miller to the crest, then turn left at the signal onto the two lane portion of Skyline Blvd. Chabot Space & Science Center is 1.3 miles up Skyline on the right. From eastern Berkeley, Orinda etc.: Go south on Highway 13 (Warren Freeway) towards Hayward. Take the Joaquin Miller/ Lincoln Avenue exit. Turn left and proceed up the hill on Joaquin Miller to the crest, then turn left at the signal onto the two lane portion of Skyline Blvd. Chabot Space & Science Center is 1.3 miles up Skyline on the right. From Hayward, Castro Valley and points East: Go west on I 580 and take the Highway 13 (Warren Freeway) turnoff. Take the Joaquin Miller/Lincoln Avenue exit. Turn right, and proceed up the hill on Joaquin Miller to the crest, then turn left at the signal onto the two lane portion of Skyline Blvd. Chabot Space & Science Center is 1.3 miles up Skyline on the right. We are not accessible by public transit at this time. |
