Ujima Family Recovery Services
Ujima's mission is to provide effective, family-focused services to stop generational cycles of substance abuse and behavioral problems.
Description:
Ujima's programs and facilities strive to promote healthier patterns of behavior in children, parents, and families whose lives have been adversely affected by addiction. Program services include individual, group, and family counseling; pregnancy support; life skills education; 12-step support; relapse prevention education; family reunification support; mentoring program; therapeutic child care; trauma therapy; case management; and the Women's Health Education Program.
History:
Ujima was started in 1986 through grassroots efforts of concerned citizens who wanted to address the lack of specialized substance abuse treatment programs for women and children in Contra Costa County. In 1987, Ujima opened California's first alcohol treatment program that allowed mothers to live with their children.
