Grace Place is a faith-based non-profit neighborhood center teaching literacy, language and life skills to at-risk children and impoverished families in Golden Gate city. (Collier County)

Description:
The purpose of Grace Place programs is to significantly improve the educational and developmental outcomes of children and youth in one of the most distressed communities, and to transform this community by building collaborations and a continuum of cradle-to-career solutions of both educational programs and family and community supports, in partnership with the local schools.

Grace Place serves the children and families in Golden Gate city, identified as one of the highest pockets of need in Collier County. This 4-sq-mile community is home to many of the poorest and most under-served children in our county.

The fundamental principles of Grace Place are to:

  • strengthen the skills of the whole family, empowering parents to have a positive impact on their children's development,
  • start education as early as possible and to retain children for a continuum of care that builds a scaffolding of success, and,
  • create a critical mass of adults and community members that foster academic success, positive values, and community involvement.

Grace Place was founded in June 2004 by the local Methodist Churches, became a United Way agency in 2008, and is now supported by over 20 ecumenical church partners, the Community Foundation, many private and philanthropic foundations, local businesses, community groups, and individual supporters.

Grace Place has grown in seven years from serving 75 individuals to over 500 individuals enrolled in classes every week. Grace Place purchased the campus in September 2010 and is currently undergoing a major renovation to expand classroom facilities.
