BRYAN, Tex. – The Sexual Assault Resource Center will begin its 69th Advocate Training Class on Saturday February 26, 2011.  The training class is open to individuals interested in serving as advocates for survivors of sexual assault, their family members and loved ones.

          Advocates staff the 24-hour crisis hotline as well as accompany sexual assault survivors to local hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and court proceedings.        

          Participants will complete a training course covering the legal and medical arenas of sexual assault, as well as crisis intervention techniques and more. Upon completion of the 40 hour course, advocates are certified through the Office of Attorney General.

Interested parties may contact Brooke Wyatt at (979) 731-1000 between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Prospective advocates must fill out an application and schedule an interview prior to entrance into the training program.   Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check.
