World Polio Day
The US Senate unanimously approved a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) supporting the goals and ideals of World Polio Day. The resolution also commends the international community for taking steps to prevent and fully eradicate this deadly disease. For World Polio Day on October 24, Shot@Life supporters around the country will advocate on behalf of this resolution., the Civil Society, US public, Student will take action to let Congress know how important it is to support polio eradication efforts around the world. Shot@Life, Unicef, and the United Nations Foundation will host an event for World Polio Day at the Starkville Sports Plex on October 24th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

Japanese Cultural Workshops
The Japan Outreach Program at Mississippi State University will host a series of Japanese cultural workshops this month: * Thursday [Oct. 2], 12:30-2 p.m. -- Calligraphy * Oct. 8, 12:30-2 p.m. -- Kimono Wearing and Origami * Oct. 15, 12:30-2 p.m. -- Tea Ceremony Each session will be held at 210 Lloyd-Ricks-Watson Building. Participants completing all of the workshops will receive and MSU Japan Outreach Cultural Certificate (Level 1), and also given a priority in Japan Outreach Program volunteer opportunities. Palmer Home 2nd Annual Southern Soiree - Jackson
On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, the second annual Southern Soirée benefiting Palmer Home for Children will be held at The South Warehouse in Jackson, MS. We are looking forward to another wonderful evening under the stars. It will be an unforgettable night full of live music, good food, good times and a silent auction. This event would be impossible without the strong support of generous patrons and volunteers in the community. It is our hope that this event will be a success and help Palmer Home continue to provide help and hope to the children in our care.

Pink Heals 5K Run 2014
Pink Heals is a group of Firefighters whose purpose is to raise awareness and money for the fight against cancer for women in Starkville and the surrounding areas. The Starkville Fire Department will host an annual Pink Heals 5k Run & Walk on Saturday, October 25th to raise funds to help support the Breast Health Center in Starkville, MS.

Bulldog Bash 2014
Bulldog Bash™ is a free event held each fall in the Historic Cotton District that features an MSU Football Dawg Rally, FanFare and live music on several stages. The festival draws around 35,000 visitors and is held on a Friday night before one of the SEC MSU home football games. The concert has been branded as “Mississippi’s Largest Free Outdoor Concert Event!” Past performers include Jason Mraz, The Avett Brothers, Eli Young Band, Gloriana, Third Eye Blind, Jake Owen, Gavin Degraw, Matt Wertz, Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain, Eric Church, Bobby Valentino, and many more. Bulldog Bash™ is not only made up of one single concert, it has at least several different bands each year. The festival also features our Vendor Area, comprised of various companies, organizations, and restaurants who fill the Cotton District with shoppers and great smells of fresh cooked food. The DawgRally moves down from the Junction to the Cotton District for fans to support their Dawgs before one of this year’s SEC games. Following the DawgRally, our annual FanFare takes place, which is made up of multiple inflatables and family fun activities. We are also adding our first annual Grill Your Bash Off which will include great food prepared in both the amateur and professional divisions. Bulldog Bash™ is truly a night for family and friends.

Casserole Kitchen
Casserole Kitchen is an ecumenical county-wide coalition of 20 or so churches and organizations that provides free healthy meals and a place for a fellowship. It serves meals Tuesday and Thursdays from 6-6:30 PM and Saturdays from 11:30-12 noon in the Fellowship Hall of 1st Presbyterian Church Starkville (enter in the back of our main sanctuary building) 52 weeks a year. We take a few days off during the holiday season (usually in November and December).
