The Volunteer Program, encourages community residents to support and partner with law enforcement. The Volunteer Program recruits volunteers to provide a force multiplier, consistently ready to assist the Billings Police Department.
Description:
Currently, more than 100 volunteers, ranging in age from 18-84, serve in multiple capacities. Volunteers work in five divisions, which consist of the Report Writing Center, Crime Prevention Program, the Volunteer Patrol Unit, the Special Projects Division, and the Volunteer Bike Patrol. In addition to the application, each applicant must pass a criminal background check and three reference checks. Volunteer must have no serious misdemeanor or any felony convictions. In addition, volunteers agree to serve for a minimum of one year.
History:
The Billings Police Department Volunteer Program began in 1996 with a few volunteers and part-time staffing. In 2000, a full-time Volunteer Coordinator position was approved. The Volunteer Program is now located in a beautiful new facility called the Crime Prevention Center in downtown Billings
