The Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center of the United Way of Yellowstone County is a member of the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network, the nation's largest organized local delivery system for mobilizing volunteers to meet needs in local communities. Volunteer Centers, local leadership organizations for community volunteering, are catalysts for volunteer action and knowledge leaders about volunteering.

Connecting people with opportunities to serve

We provide access to information about a wide range of volunteer opportunities at nonprofit and government agencies serving Yellowstone County. We help link people who want to help-individuals, families, students, businesses and their employees, civic community and faith-based organizations-with places where their time, talent and interests can be utilized effectively.

We help agencies, businesses and others who work with volunteers build their skills in recruiting, managing, retaining and recognizing volunteers. We provide volunteer program development and management training and consultation, share volunteer management resource information, and provide training and support for specialized groups of volunteers, such as board members and leaders.

We raise awareness of the value of volunteering and encourage people to volunteer. We give presentations and provide ideas and information regarding the recognition of volunteers.

We serve as conveners for the community and catalysts for action. We work with all sectors of the community to identify needs and help design and mobilize volunteer response. We serve as the lead contact for Billings' Promise-The Alliance for Youth, a campaign affiliated with America's Promise, to mobilize the community to provide all young people with caring adults, safe places, a healthy start and future, marketable skills and the opportunity to give back through service.
