|Last updated on July 31, 2015|
Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council is a girl-led youth organization based in Boise, Idaho. The council, along with a team of 2,100 local volunteers, delivers relevant educational leadership programs that help build girls of courage, confidence, and character who positively impact the communities in which they live.
Girl Scouts provides a national K-12 leadership and educational curriculum. All Girl Scout programs support girls inside and outside of school and are designed to build self-esteem, integrity, a sense of community, and leadership skills--all of which enable girls to reach their full potential in school, in their personal lives and in their careers. The council impacts more than 3,700 girls in southern Idaho, the majority of which are located in Treasure Valley.
Girl Scout programming promotes critical thinking, problem solving skills and applied education through an inquiry-based learning environment that helps girls explore passions and develop new interests. Programs are available year-round including after-school and weekends. In addition to troop participation, there are special topic education programs that include STEM, business skill building, money management, environmental stewardship, anti-bullying, healthy living, and positive values, just to name a few.
An essential component of Girl Scouts is community service. Girls choose, manage, and participate in community service projects that benefit thousands of local families and individuals who are underprivileged, homeless, hungry, sick and/or disabled. They also help non-profit civic groups and foundations at fundraising events such as the Color Run in Boise, the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce Caldwell Night Rodeo, St. Al's Foundation Festival of Trees, and ICON Credit Union's 6-week long winter sock drive throughout Treasure Valley called Warm Hearts Toasty Toes. Last year, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage performed nearly 200,000 hours of community service.
Established in 1949, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council serves girls and volunteers in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon.
Girl Scouts is a girl-led organization that was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah,Georgia. The first troop consisted of only 18 girls. Today, there are more than 2.3 million girl members and 900,000 adult volunteers worldwide who contribute positively to society.
Girl Scouts was founded on the principal that every girl should have the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting, regardless of financial ability. In turn, Girl Scouts has been committed to giving back to its communities for more than 100 years.
