Shelter/HelpLine volunteers are crucial to the work done on behalf of survivors and their children in the shelter and on the HelpLine. Shelter/HelpLine Volunteers engage in crisis intervention, provide referrals, safety plan with survivors, provide information on dating and domestic violence, and interact with women and children in the shelter. Shelter/HelpLine Volunteers play a critical role in helping to save the lives of women whom are in immediate danger by staffing the shelter and answering the crisis line.

Shelter/Crisis Line Volunteers must attend the 40 hour training, and an interview is required prior to training. Only women may volunteer for this position. Shifts are available in the afternoon, evening, overnight and on weekends. Volunteers work one four hour shift per week; we ask that volunteers make at least a 6 month commitment to SafeHouse Center.

SafeHouse Center is the second driveway on the right. Go to the lower left entrance. From Ypsilanti: Same as Ann Arbor, but at the intersection of Washtenaw and Carpenter, turn right onto Hogback.
