The National Park Service cares for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage.
History:
National parks have been a part of the American landscape since the creation of Yellowstone National Park in 1872. Now there are more than 380 national park units across the United States and its territories. With the creation of the National Park Service in 1916, national parks had caretakers to manage these various units for future generations to enjoy.
