Family Service is a private non-profit agency located in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Family Service has more than 20 programs in the area of child welfare, parent education, mental health and wellness, and youth development and mentoring. Family Service’s Commonwealth Corps project seeks one full time (40 hours/week) Volunteer to work with two academic youth mentoring program, AMIGOS and GRAD, which match students in one-on-one mentoring relationships. The goals these programs are to improve the academic achievements of middle school and high school youth as well as their attitudes and behaviors toward learning, school, and a reduction in risk behaviors. Family Service seeks to expand the capacity of this program to serve volunteers and students more thoroughly and hence increase positive outcomes. Responsibilities: Attend all required corps trainings and service events held by MSA Complete minimum of 1,600 hours of service Build and maintain relationships with school faculty and administrators Gather and aggregate school and volunteer feedback Facilitate focus groups Conduct in-person, telephonic, and online support to volunteers Research and disseminate academic resource materials to volunteers Build relationships with local college(s) to increase volunteer recruitment Research evaluation tools relevant to the mentoring field Benefits: $384.62 biweekly stipend payment Health insurance (full-time members only) Bonus upon successful completion of service Training and other professional development opportunities Potential for employment following term of service. Requirements for the volunteer position are as followed: must have a Massachusetts residency, be 18 years of age or older, have experience with or interest in volunteerism and community engagement, and an enthusiasm for youth programming and passion for helping students increase academic achievement.
