Description:
Allied Rehabilitation Centers, Inc., has been serving the needs of adults with developmental disabilities in north central Connecticut since 1964. The organization’s Mission is to “provide individuals with disabilities or other challenges the opportunity to live and enjoy a productive, independent and fulfilling life.” Allied’s Vision, shared by consumers, staff, families and friends alike, is “Creating Opportunities for People.” Approximately 200 consumers with developmental disabilities from 16 towns in north central Connecticut currently receive services. These include Day and Residential Services; Employment Training & Transitional Services; Waiver Services; Sports Training & Recreation; Transportation Services; and Self-Advocacy. Allied also provides school-to-work transition services to high school students enrolled in Special Education programs. Allied Rehabilitation Centers opened Allied’s Attic Thrift Store in Enfield in August 2007. This retail operation provides real-world employment and skills development training for consumer-employees. At the same time, it fills a need in the community for reasonably priced clothing and merchandise.
