United Way of Palm Beach County Volunteer Center
Last updated on December 18, 2014

We improve measurably the lives of individuals and families in Palm Beach County by uniting the resources of donors, volunteers, agencies and the community.

Description:
The Volunteer Center partners with the community to measurably improve lives through volunteerism. We provide a variety of functions for Palm Beach County, including: (a) promoting volunteerism; (b) training and assisting non-profit organizations with volunteer program development and implementation; (c) recruiting and referring volunteers to opportunities; (d) recognizing volunteers; and (e) managing local corporate volunteer programs and numerous individual programs designed to mobilize volunteers to solve community problems. We provide these functions by developing and sustaining national partnerships, participating in national media campaigns and by developing and strengthening our local infrastructure to support volunteers and volunteer efforts. Together we can actively create the stronger, safer, and healthier community we all want.

History:
United Way of Palm Beach County is a 501c(3) organization governed by both federal and state laws relating to not-for-profits. Following the devastating hurricane of 1928, community leaders recognized the need for a unified effort to respond to human needs.

Since that time the original organization has undergone many changes in its title and structure. Today, United Way of Palm Beach County is much more than a fundraiser. We work with the entire community to identify the most pressing needs - then bring together many different resources to achieve results that matter.

United Way of Palm Beach County Volunteer Center 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
The Volunteering at the United Way of Palm Beach County was a valuble experience.

Volunteering at the United Way of Palm Beach County was truly a rewarding experience. I became part of an amazing staff of people that are making a difference in Palm Beach County everyday. The work that I did encompassed many sectors of volunteerism including children and families, enriching the lives of senior citizens, helping people with disabilities as well as food, shelter and emergency needs. I also created an easy to use website manual geared to help agencies gain volunteers post volunteer opportunities through the United Way of Palm Beach County's website. I felt that my work really made a difference in the lives of others. I highly recommend volunteering at the United Way of Palm Beach County.

It has been very rewarding.

I volunteer two days a week at the United Way Volunteer Center and assist with clerical duties. For the past 20 years, I worked for a large corporation whose main concern was increasing revenues. I have never been associated with a nonprofit agency, and it is refreshing to be around people who care about their community and want to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. I feel my involvement with United Way has given me a better understanding of the tremendous need for resources and volunteers, as well as an appreciation for United Way's tireless efforts in behalf of Palm Beach County.

I felt very welcomed and wanted by the people at United Way.

The United Way of Palm Beach is an agency that gives money to non profit agencies and is the source where volunteer opportunities are found. I worked at the United for the summer and I found my experience to be very rewarding. I was able to help with the initial setup of a new website geared towards helping agencies post volunteer opportunities and helping volunteers find the perfect opportunity for them. The environment I worked in was very warm, supportive, and informative. I learned something new each day I came to The United Way. I especially enjoyed being a part of something that is going to make a difference in people's lives. The three people I worked most closely with were Donna Pulda, Lise Landry, and Daryl Houston. They made me feel like I was part of the team ever since the first day I walked through the door. I will always remember and cherish the great volunteer opportunity I experienced this summer.
